IN MEMORIAM
Craig Saunders McCracken
"Sandy"
June 2, 1943 - June 2, 2007
Craig Saunders McCracken was born June 2, 1943, in Santa Monica, California to Wm Gordon and Ruth McCracken. He was the second of four children.
The family moved several times during Craig's early childhood. During his teen years, they moved to north to Oregon, living in Gaston, Hillsboro, St. Helen's, Eugene and Roseburg. Finally they moved to Sacramento, California and settled at 1700 Los Robles Blvd.
At age fourteen, Craig was diagnosed with Diabetes.
In June of 1960, Craig graduated from Grant Union High School in Sacramento, California. He went on to college at the University of California Davis where he graduated June 11, 1965 with a Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. On August 25, 1972 he received his Masters Degree from Smith College.
After graduation, Craig took his first trip abroad to Ireland. In his lifetime he would make many more trips to Europe, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Egypt, Maracco as well as the Carribean, Alaska, Louisiana and other states in the United States. He loved to hike and was an avid photographer. No matter where he wentin the world, San Francisco was his home. He was proud of the city and whenever his work took him away, he could not wait to get back there.
Craig loved children. He dedicated his professional life to protecting the innocent. He worked for various private and public agencies in Northern and Central California dedicated to child welfare; finally settling into his career with the City & County of San Francisco's Human Services Department. In addition to his working with children, Craig also volunteered at the Marin Suicide Prevention Center, first on the volunteer crisis line and then training new volunteers. He also was a volunteer leader for a support group with Shanti. Craig retired from his professional career on October 7, 2006.
Craig's other passion was cooking and baking. He especially loved sweating to hot sauces (as hot as possible) from around the world.
In the early hours of June 2, 2007, Craig passed away in his home due to complications from Diabetes and heart disease. His ashes were scattered in the SanFrancisco Bay where he will be forever home.
