In the past few months, among my author friends, the topic once again surfaced. A handful of them had just released their novels in audiobook form and were sharing their experiences. This reignited my desire to get Charlie made into an audiobook.
So, at the direction of my friends, I checked out acx.com's website. ACX is an Amazon Platform. You first have to register with them by setting up an account. This involves just giving them your name, address, email etc. Pretty basic stuff. If you are already an Amazon.com customer, they have most of that information already. Simple.
Next you have to create a title profile for the book you want recorded. This step includes verifying you hold the audio rights to your book, deciding what type of narrator you want (male/female, accent, age etc), and also a short sample for auditioning narrators. Once this is completed, the next step is one of the following:
1) Narrators, audiobook studios, and other Producers will find your book on ACX and proactively audition to record your book.
2) You'll search ACX's database to find the perfect Producer to record your book.
3) An Audio Publisher searching ACX will message you about buying the audio rights directly from you.
This is as far as I have gone today. I've put Charlie out there and will wait a few days(?) to see what sort of response I get before I launch into searching their database. I will keep you posted on my experience and how the process develops.
